I thought that with hard work and dedication, I would get a six-pack.
I was wrong.
It took some unlearning before I learned what worked for me and achieved some surprising and accidental results. I would like to share what I unlearned and learned with you.
Let me provide some context, rewind, and set the scene. During the summer before college, I tried getting a six-pack as a fun goal to achieve. Even though I worked hard doing sit-ups (as well as a fair amount of biking and push-ups that summer), I didn’t see any results. I thought perhaps my body wasn’t the type that could get a six-pack, so I was mildly disappointed and moved on.
After some time passed, I decided to do sit-ups regularly again. This time my goal was different. I did not have the goal to do sit-ups to get a six-pack. My mindset had changed, in part because I assumed I couldn’t get a six-pack, but mainly and more importantly I just wanted to do sit-ups for general health reasons. I was perfectly healthy, but I figured that doing this regularly could only create positive change.
One day I was looking in the mirror and noticed some distinct lines around the side of my stomach and a four-pack. (Later I discovered the lines around my stomach are called 11 line abs.). I know it may sound…
