There are activities we have to do that we’re not always thrilled about doing. What are the things we can do to make ordinary and boring tasks better?

Here are some tips: we can tweak the task, pair a neutral or disagreeable task with something positive, reduce the friction between starting the task and actually doing it and reward ourselves at the end of the task to create joy from a mundane activity.

What do we do if we’re waiting around for a few minutes? Instead of simply waiting, is there something we can do to make our time more efficient?

These are the questions and exercises I think about to be more intentional about making things more efficient and even carve out more joy in the daily activities I find myself doing.

Tweak the Task

If exercise is a neutral or disagreeable activity for you, is there a way to tweak it? Does running earlier or later in the day help?

If you don’t like running, can you further tweak what you’re doing? How about trying another form of exercise like playing basketball, boxing or salsa? There are so many things you can even do at home by yourself or with the online community whether it’s Pilates, yoga or push-up challenges.
