Staying in touch with your network doesn’t have to be difficult.

If you find networking repulsive and want to recoil when faced with a networking event, it helps to reframe your thinking about networking.

Networking can be done through thoughtful acts of service to others.

Here are some things to keep in mind to help you with reframing how you think about networking:

  1. Be kind and genuinely interested in your colleagues.
  2. Think about how you want to help them and how you can provide value.
  3. Play an active role in keeping in touch with your network through helpful acts of service.

Social media and LinkedIn have made it easier to keep in touch with your colleagues. Yet it is important to keep in mind that consistently staying in touch with your network involves taking an active role.

Keeping in touch doesn’t have to involve long lengthy emails. You can send a quick text, email, LinkedIn message, etc. to your colleagues about any of the following:

  1. Wishing them a happy birthday.
  2. An article that relates to their career or other professional pursuits (e.g. side hustle).
